Both institutes also discussed formalizing the discussed activities in a Memorandum of Understanding. AIT and IIT Kanpur, India launch Dual Doctoral Degree Program with glimpses of more collaborations Bangkok, March 17, 2022 – The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) jointly launched the Dual Doctoral Degree Program via a virtual ceremony. Following a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed just last year, four students have already enrolled into the program and joined the launch. With remarks by the leaders of the two institutions and a special lecture, the beginning of AIT – IIT Dual Degree Program offers a preview of the two institutions’ academic strengths and many more possible collaborations. Education Innovation Camp 1-14 November 2021 The 4th Online Education Innovation Camp held from 1st to 14th November 2021 has succesfully concluded with students participants who are from AIT’s partner universities in the Philippines, Thailand and Bangladesh namely – the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP), Thammasat University (TU), King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) Thailand and Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), Bangladesh, respectively. They came from diverse backgrounds such as Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Communication Enginering, Robotics and AI, Information Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics. Aside from the main output presentation of their mini projects, students were also given some challenging exercises and assignments such as “Create Your Own Video Resume” and “Noise Pollution Mapping in their Communities” through crowdsourcing Geo-App, they were tasked to create their own resume for job application. Students were ignited by brainstorming sessions to think of innovation technologies for their mini project activity. The students showed great enthusiasm in accomplishing all the given tasks. The presentation of a mini-project on innovative ideas by the participants to come up with new innovative ideas coming from the students which is inspiring to the organizing committee seeing their enthusiasm to learn new knowledge, innovate solutions to challenges, and inspire others of what can be gained when joining the Education Camp at the Asian Institute of Technology. Before awarding of certificates and announcing of winners of different exercises and activities, students were also given the opportunity to share their experiences and take aways during the 14-days online event, from the new learning experiences, to the new skills they gained and to new friends and network they obtained. 5-MINUTE RESEARCH PITCHING 29-30 October 2021 A huge turnout showed up for the 2-day "5-Minute Research Pitching" Workshop and Competition organized on 29-30 October 2021 by the office of the Special Degree Programs. The event has given an opportunity for the emerging young researchers from 10+ countries to present their research ideas and innovations. A total of 130 applications from 18 universities were received and 80 applicants were able to make it to the final pitching competition event. This 5-minute Research Pitch idea was adopted from the format of the globally recognized research presentation format called 3-minute Thesis (3MT) which originated in Australia in 2008 and recently became a popular format for research presentation. The first day (29th Oct) was a workshop for the participants explaining the structuring of content and slides and briefing on the basic rules and guidelines of the 5MRP. while the second day (30th Oct) was the pitching competition where participants were divided according to their subject of study. The pitching competition categories were in engineering and technology, health and environment, social business, agriculture and food technology and information and communication and technology. Mentors who are experts from their respective fields were invited to provide guidance and sound advice on how to pitch their ideas in 5 minutes using only 5 slides which were evaluated by respected juries. An invited panel of jury members coming from different fields of expertise evaluated the students’ presentations. After the competition, 4 students from Mariano Marcos State University (Philippines), 1 student from University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (Philippines) and 1 student from Visayas State University (Philippines) emerged as winners in this 1st Research Pitching Competition by AIT. related post: https://www.facebook.com/179787218750300/posts/4619268221468822/ Video Resume Workshop 23 October2021 An overwhelming number of participants (394 students) from Văn Lang University, Vietnam attended the 1st session of the "Video Resume" Workshop organized by the SDP office in coordination with Asian Institute of Technology, Center in Vietnam. The workshop gave a basic introduction and understanding on the importance of video resume. Among other things, composing the script, creating the animations and shooting the video that ignited the interest of the students. Students were very interactive in the Q&A session and created a lively exchange of ideas and among the teachers and students. A 2nd session of the workshop will be held on 2 November to give opportunity to the students to present their own video resume. Afterwards, a sharing of students' reflections on what they have learned, and the difficulties encountered during their video resume making will be tackled. The lecture was conducted by Ms. Arlene Lu-Gonzales, PhD Scholar and Faculty of Mariano Marcos State University, Philippines with excellent facilitation and coordination by Mr. Ranadheer Reddy and Arthur Lance Gonzales with teachers Ms. Pham Thuy and Dao Manh Tuan of AIT Vietnam. The event was organized by the Office of Special Degree Programs f or the students who are from AIT’s partner universities in the Philippines and Indonesia the Mariano Marcos State University, Visayas State University and Petra Christian University, respectively. Student participants were from diverse backgrounds such as Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Biosystems Engineering, Information Technology, Geodetic Engineering, Meteorology and Electronics Engineering. The 1st Online Education Camp was with Siam University held in May 2021 then followed by students from King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) for the 2nd camp in July 2021. The camp theme was to “Ignite, Innovate, and Inspire” where lectures and hands-on exercises on a wide range of fields of study were conducted such as GIS, Remote Sensing, AI Trends, Brain-Computer Interface, Environmental Engineering, Financial Technologies and Solutions, Structural Engineering, Water Resource Management, Geotechnical Engineering and were seamlessly complemented with the development of their essential skills like Crowdsourcing, Video Resume Making, Communication and Presentation Skills. The exciting and informative lectures were delivered by selected prominent AIT faculty along with other invited experts. We are giving a platform to students to come learn and share their views. The main highlight of every education camp is the presentation of a mini-project on innovative ideas by the participants which is an output of their participation.
